Forbes puts Bob Faith's net worth at $6 billion (real-time estimate, checked September 25, 2026), ranking him No. 693 in the world. He built it by founding Greystar in 1993. The Charleston, South Carolina, company has become the largest apartment manager in the United States and, according to Forbes, manages and operates $350 billion in real estate on five continents.
What is Bob Faith's net worth?
The earlier version of this page said $5 billion without a source and listed an income of $45 million a year, $37 million a month and $125,000 a day. Those numbers do not even add up, and none were sourced, so the income table has been removed. The figure now comes from Forbes, which lists him at $6 billion.
His wealth has been fairly steady in recent years. In April 2024 Forbes' World's Billionaires list put him at $5.8 billion and No. 511 in the world, SCBiz reported. Because Greystar is private, Forbes values his stake by estimating what the business is worth, not from a share price.

Where the money comes from
- Ownership of Greystar. Forbes lists his source of wealth as real estate management and rates him highly self-made (8 out of 10).
- Property management. Greystar runs apartment buildings for itself and other owners. The Real Deal, citing the National Multifamily Housing Council, said it manages more than a million apartment units in the U.S., up from about 946,000 cited in late 2025.
- Investment management. Greystar's investment platform has more than $79 billion of assets under management, according to Forbes. That brings in fees and a share of profits from investors' money.
- Development. Greystar also builds new rental housing.
Early life and education
Robert Alan Faith studied petroleum engineering at the University of Oklahoma and then earned an MBA at Harvard Business School. He told Multifamily Executive in 2016 that he finished his undergraduate degree in three years and went straight on to business school. His ancestors were German immigrants who settled in Missouri; the family name was once spelled "Faeth." Forbes lists his age as 62.

Faith has said the best business advice he got came from developer Trammell Crow: hire people who are genuinely nice, because others will then work to help them succeed.
Recent changes (2025–2026)
Greystar has faced legal and regulatory challenges during this period. In late 2025 it agreed to pay $7 million to settle a Justice Department antitrust case over landlords' use of RealPage rent-setting software; under that settlement Greystar may not use or share non-public data such as occupancy levels, signed rents or concessions when setting rents. Weeks later it agreed to a $24 million settlement with the Federal Trade Commission and Colorado over rental fees that were not included in advertised prices. The FTC said Greystar advertised low rents and added mandatory fees late in the process; most of the money is meant to go to renters as refunds, The Real Deal reported. Greystar said the agreement included no admission of wrongdoing.
In July 2026 a watchdog group, Housing Rights Initiative, accused Greystar of refusing Section 8 housing vouchers in several states where landlords must accept them, citing more than 100 alleged violations, The Real Deal reported, citing the New York Times. Greystar said it trains employees to comply with fair housing laws. These cases involve the company, not Faith personally. They have not been reported to change Forbes' estimate of his wealth.
Family and home
Faith lives in Charleston, South Carolina. He is married to interior designer Muffie Faith, and they have three children, according to Wikipedia and Forbes. The old page's claims that he came from "a family of founders" and started out as a homebuilder were not accurate. He began at a commercial real estate developer and in real estate investing.
Net worth compared
Other business founders profiled here include Bob Brisco and Abel Avellan, whom Forbes values at $4.7 billion. Faith's fortune rests on a private company, while Avellan's moves with a public stock price.
How this figure was reached
Forbes estimates private-company wealth by valuing the business, often by comparing it with similar public companies, and applying the founder's estimated stake, then adjusting for other assets. Greystar does not publish its financials, so the estimate carries more uncertainty than one based on public shares. The $5.8 billion figure from 2024 and $6 billion in 2026 suggest Forbes sees the business as stable.
