No reputable outlet has published an estimate of Bob Brisco's net worth. The $13 million figure this page showed had no source and has been removed. Brisco is the longtime chief executive of Internet Brands, the El Segundo, California, company that owns WebMD, Medscape, Avvo, Nolo and CarsDirect. A 2022 recapitalization valued the company at more than $12 billion, and Brisco's management team has held a minority stake since KKR bought the business in 2014.

What is Bob Brisco's net worth?

Internet Brands has been private since 2010, so executive pay and management's equity are not disclosed. The Los Angeles Business Journal reported in 2014 that Brisco and the rest of the management team would keep a minority stake after KKR's purchase, but the size of that stake and Brisco's personal share have never been published. Without that, his net worth cannot be estimated responsibly, and we do not give a figure.

The company's value gives a sense of what is at stake. KKR's 2014 purchase was reported at about $1.1 billion. In July 2022, when Warburg Pincus joined KKR and Temasek as investors, the company announced a valuation of more than $12 billion. Brisco said at the time that the business had grown eight times since KKR's first investment. Even a small percentage of a company that size would be worth far more than the figure previously shown here.

Internet Brands: the business he runs

The company began in 1998 as CarsDirect.com, launched from the Idealab incubator to sell cars online without haggling. It renamed itself Internet Brands in 2005 and expanded into a portfolio of websites for specific audiences, from car enthusiasts to home improvers and travelers. Today, according to Wikipedia, its largest businesses are in online health and legal services and it employs more than 7,000 people.

  • Health: Internet Brands bought WebMD and Medscape in a $2.8 billion deal in 2017 and has since added companies such as Aptus Health, StayWell, ADDitude, Limeade and Healthwise.
  • Legal: it owns Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Nolo and Super Lawyers, and in December 2024 completed its purchase of FindLaw from Thomson Reuters.
  • Dental: in 2018 it formed Henry Schein One, a dental software joint venture with Henry Schein.
  • Consumer sites: CarsDirect, Fodor's Travel, FlyerTalk and many enthusiast forums.

Taking the company private in 2010

When Hellman & Friedman agreed to buy Internet Brands in September 2010, the $13.35-a-share offer valued the company at about four times its yearly revenue, VatorNews reported. Brisco wrote on his blog that the company had gone public three years earlier just as financial markets began to collapse, had still prospered, and that the sale was a good deal for shareholders. Idealab, the original incubator, then held 19% of the stock and most of the voting power. At the time the company ran more than 100 websites with about 62 million monthly unique visitors, and its second-quarter 2010 revenue was $28.1 million, up 21% from a year earlier.

The 2022 deal was a vote of confidence in Brisco's team. Warburg Pincus co-head of U.S. private equity Mark Colodny joined the board, and KKR partner John Park credited the leadership team with the company's progress over the previous eight years.

Personal life

Brisco keeps his private life out of the press. The previous version of this page named a partner, gave degrees from UCLA and USC, and listed his age, height and weight. We found no reliable source for those details and have removed them, together with an invented income table. The old text also described him as a "Director" in general terms; his actual role is president and CEO of Internet Brands.

Net worth compared

Brisco is one of several executives on this site whose wealth depends on private equity-backed companies. Compare Brint Ryan, whose tax firm drew a $7 billion valuation in 2026, and Bill Ryan of Shamrock Trading. See also Brad Greiwe.

Why there is no reliable figure

Management stakes in private equity deals are usually disclosed only when a company goes public or is sold, and even then only in outline. Internet Brands has done neither since 2014. Brisco's pay, bonuses and equity grants are private, so his net worth is not publicly known. The best available evidence is the company's growth from a $640 million buyout in 2010 to a valuation above $12 billion in 2022.
