No reputable outlet such as Forbes or Bloomberg has published an estimate of Aaron Skonnard's net worth. The earlier version of this page gave two different figures, $351 million and $17.3 million, with no source for either, so both have been removed. Skonnard co-founded Pluralsight, the Utah online tech-training company, in 2004, took it public on Nasdaq in 2018 and sold it to Vista Equity Partners for $3.5 billion in a deal announced in December 2020. His wealth comes mainly from Pluralsight shares he sold or cashed out along the way.
What is Aaron Skonnard's net worth?
There is no reliable published figure, but the public record shows large payouts. As co-founder, CEO, chairman and a 10% owner, he had to report his share sales. In one March 2019 sale he sold 480,618 shares at an average of $28.37, for about $13.6 million, according to a GuruFocus report carried by Yahoo Finance. When Vista bought the company, it paid $20.26 a share for all outstanding stock, the Deseret News reported, so any shares he still held were converted to cash or rolled into the new private company.
What we do not know is how many shares he held at the buyout, how much he rolled over, or what taxes and other obligations came off the top. That is why no single number is responsible. If he kept equity in the private Pluralsight, it would have been exposed to the 2024 restructuring, when lenders took control of the company and Vista wrote off its entire stake, as Private Debt News reported.

Early life and education
Skonnard grew up in Portland, Oregon. In a first-person account for Utah Business, he wrote that his father, an accountant, bought an Apple II when he was about eight and in third grade, in the early 1980s, and the two taught themselves to program. He graduated from Franklin High School in Portland and earned a bachelor's degree in computer science from Brigham Young University in the mid-1990s.
Career before Pluralsight
After BYU he worked briefly as a programmer at 3M, Intel and Axiom Technologies. In the late 1990s he joined DevelopMentor, a developer-training firm, as an author and instructor. He wrote three books and hundreds of articles and spoke at developer conferences, and he quit his day job to teach full time. The earlier version of this page described him mainly as an IT consultant who owned Skonnard Consulting; his public career has been in developer education.

Building Pluralsight
At DevelopMentor he met Fritz Onion, Keith Sparkjoy and Bill Williams, and the four formed Pluralsight in April 2004. At first they flew around the world running four- and five-day classroom courses for developers. About three years in, Skonnard decided the model needed to move online, and the company launched with 10 online courses, which grew to 100 within two years, he told the Deseret News.

Stepping down and the investor settlement
Skonnard stepped down as CEO in April 2024 and stayed on as a special advisor to his successor, the Salt Lake Tribune reported. In February 2025 Pluralsight and two former executives, including Skonnard, agreed to a $20 million settlement with investors, including public school retirement funds, who claimed the company had misrepresented its performance while it was public, the Tribune reported. The report did not say how the payment was split among the defendants.
Investing and community roles
Since leaving the CEO role, Skonnard has appeared as an angel investor. In February 2026 wealth-management software company Jump named him among the angel investors in its $80 million Series B, according to Financial IT. He is also listed as a trustee of Silicon Slopes Commons, the nonprofit tied to Utah's tech community, in IRS filings compiled by ProPublica.
Personal life
Skonnard's own account places his birth in the early 1970s; no reliable source gives an exact date, so the age of 40 in the earlier version of this page has been removed, along with an unverified wife's name and a height and weight.

Why estimates differ
Sites that list a figure for Skonnard rarely explain it. A careful estimate would need his share count at the 2020 buyout, whatever he reinvested, and the value of that reinvestment after the 2024 lender takeover. None of that is public. The record does show that he sold at least $13.6 million of Pluralsight stock in a single 2019 sale, and that the rest of his shares were bought out at $20.26 each or rolled into the private company.
