No reputable business publication has published a net worth figure for Charlie Ton Quy, so this page does not give one. He is the founder of Regal Nails, the franchise chain best known for nail salons inside Walmart stores, which had more than 900 locations in the United States and Canada by 2018, according to the Vietnamese-American newspaper Nguoi Viet. He also founded Alfalfa Nail Supply, a Baton Rouge maker of salon products.
What Is Charlie Ton Quy's Net Worth?
An earlier version of this page gave a figure of $5 million. It had no source and has been removed. At the other extreme, some Vietnamese websites call him a billionaire. We found no Forbes, Bloomberg or other wealth ranking that lists him, so neither number can be supported.
What can be described is the scale of what he owns. Regal Nails is privately held and does not publish its finances. In 2021 the Vietnamese newspaper Bao Phap Luat did a rough calculation: taking an average of about $34,000 in monthly sales per salon, a figure it credited to Nails magazine, it put the chain's total yearly salon sales at around $450 million. That is money taken in by franchisees across the network, not Ton's personal income. A 2023 VietNamNet article, republished by Vietnam.vn, put network revenue at more than $500 million a year without saying where the number came from.

Charlie Ton Quy's Yearly Earnings, Monthly Income and Salary
The old page said he earned $5 million a year, $42,000 a month and $1,400 a day. Those figures do not agree with each other ($42,000 a month is about $500,000 a year) and had no source, so they are gone.
His income comes from the franchisor rather than from running any one salon. As he described it to Nguoi Viet in 2018, Regal Nails has charged franchisees a monthly fee of $1 per square foot since the start, for salons that are typically about 700 square feet. He also owns the supplier, Alfalfa Nail Supply, which sells tools, polish and other products to salons. Neither company discloses its profits, so his personal earnings are not known.
Early Life and Family
Ton's Vietnamese name is Ton That Khuong Quy. He left Vietnam as a teenager and arrived in Louisiana at about 15, where he lived with an older brother and relatives. Accounts differ on the details: Nguoi Viet says he came from Nha Trang and arrived in 1985, while Bao Phap Luat says his family roots are in Binh Dinh province, that he was born in 1970 and that he arrived in 1986 after finishing eighth grade. Brazil's Pequenas Empresas & Grandes Negocios said in 2014 that his mother put him on a wooden boat at 14 and that he passed through the Philippines on the way.
In Louisiana he took whatever work he could while finishing high school, including jobs at a seafood market and cleaning a billiard hall, according to Bao Phap Luat. The old page said he was born in Vietnam, which is correct. Its claims about his age (42), height and weight had no source and have been removed.
Education
The old page said Ton studied chemical engineering at Harvard University. That is wrong. He studied at the University of Louisiana and graduated in 1995 with a chemistry degree, according to Nguoi Viet; the Brazilian magazine describes the degree as chemical engineering. Bao Phap Luat says he first wanted to study aerospace, but the school had no such program, so he switched to chemistry. He could not find a job after graduating, which pushed him into the nail business.
Charlie Ton Quy's Wife
Ton married while still at university. Bao Phap Luat names his wife as Le Phuong, who was also from Vietnam and owned a nail salon, and it was her business that led him into the industry. We do not add further family details.
Career: Building Regal Nails
With a chemistry background and a wife in the nail trade, Ton started Alfalfa Nail Supply in Baton Rouge in May 1995 to make nail salon products, from tools to polish. He told Nguoi Viet in 2018 that it still operated and had more than 80 employees.
The idea for Regal Nails came in 1997, when he noticed that a Walmart he was shopping in had hair salons but no nail salon. Bao Phap Luat reports that Walmart first turned him down, and that he got in about six months later when a space became free. The company's own history on regalnails.com says the franchise system was founded in 1997 in Baton Rouge, where it is still based, that the first Regal Nails opened in October 1997 inside a Kmart in Brooklyn, Ohio, and that the first Walmart location opened the same month in Shreveport, Louisiana, after another vendor pulled out at short notice. Nguoi Viet gives November 1997 in Baton Rouge for his first salon, so the company's own account is the one to rely on.
| Year | Milestone | Source |
|---|---|---|
| 1995 | Graduates in chemistry; founds Alfalfa Nail Supply in Baton Rouge | Nguoi Viet |
| 1997 | Regal Nails franchise system founded; first Kmart and Walmart salons open | Regal Nails |
| 2013 | Launches Charlie's Coffee | VietNamNet |
| 2014 | More than 1,000 salons in the U.S., Canada, Puerto Rico and Australia; plans first Brazil unit | PEGN |
| 2018 | More than 900 salons in the U.S. and Canada | Nguoi Viet |
| 2021 | Reported at about 1,100 salons | Bao Phap Luat |
The store counts differ between sources and years, and some locations have closed as others opened, so treat them as rough. What they agree on is that most salons sit inside Walmart stores and that the chain grew by roughly 100 or more salons a year in its early period.
How the Business Model Works
Ton has explained his approach in several interviews. He kept salons small, sized for a husband and wife and a few technicians, so that rent stayed low and franchisees could turn a profit each month. Walmart supplied the foot traffic, which he told Pequenas Empresas & Grandes Negocios was the first thing he needed. He said the chain trains technicians for ten days and sends field consultants to check each location. Many franchisees are Vietnamese-American families, which fits the wider pattern Bao Phap Luat describes: Vietnamese Americans own a large share of nail salons in the United States.
Other Ventures and Recent Changes
In 2014 Ton said Regal Nails would open its first salon in Brazil, in Natal, in partnership with the Brazilian chain Spa das Sobrancelhas, and that his goal was 2,200 locations. According to VietNamNet, he also started Charlie's Coffee in 2013, which had six cafes in the United States by 2023.
We found no 2025 or 2026 news coverage of a sale, a new funding deal or a change in his role. Regal Nails is still based in Baton Rouge and still lists salons inside Walmart, H-E-B and shopping malls.
What About Regal Nails Vance Jackson?
The old version of this page called Ton the "President of Regal Nails Vance Jackson." Regal Nails Vance Jackson is a single Regal Nails salon on Vance Jackson Road in San Antonio, Texas, according to its own website. Ton founded and runs the franchisor, not that one location, so the title has been corrected. Contact details for individual salons are not included here.
Net Worth Compared
Ton's model, a franchise system built on small units inside a larger retailer, can be compared with Tom and Chee, another franchise business on this site. In beauty, see Brooke Fleetwood and Kisha Royse. You may also like Dan Saltman and Andre Norman.
Why There Is No Reliable Estimate
Ton owns private companies that publish no accounts, and he has not disclosed his stake or earnings. Sales estimates for the chain describe money taken in by hundreds of independent franchisees, not profit that reaches him, and the store counts reported between 2014 and 2021 range from about 900 to 1,100. Until a reputable outlet publishes an estimate with a method, we will not give a figure.
