No reputable outlet publishes a net worth figure for Bill Geissele. The $747 million figure on the older version of this page had no source, and Geissele Automatics is privately held and does not report revenue or profit, so we have removed it. His wealth comes from owning and running Geissele Automatics, the Pennsylvania maker of AR-15 triggers, rails and rifles he started after designing a match trigger for himself in 2004, and which now holds military contracts including a SOCOM sniper rifle award worth up to $29.3 million.

What is Bill Geissele's net worth?

There is no reliable published estimate. Forbes does not list him among its billionaires, and no financial outlet has reported the value of Geissele Automatics. Private firearms companies rarely publish accounts, so any exact figure online is a guess.

The best evidence of the business's size is its government work and product range, set out below. The older page also claimed he owns companies called "MLG Defense and Abraham", earns $29 million to $580 million a year, and played college football. We found no support for any of that, and it has been removed.

Where the money comes from: Geissele Automatics

Geissele Automatics is based in North Wales, Pennsylvania, according to its National Tooling and Machining Association member listing, which describes it as a precision machining company. Its revenue streams, as reported by the trade press:

  • Triggers. The company began with the Hi-Speed National Match trigger that Geissele designed in 2004, as he explained to AmmoLand in 2011. Triggers remain its best-known product line.
  • Rails and parts. It has made the Super Modular Rail (SMR) for AR-15 and M4 rifles since 2009. In 2015 Geissele wrote to customers, in a letter published by Recoil, that the company had invested in equipment, people and new processes to mass-produce the rails, cutting prices to a starting point of $200.
  • Complete rifles. It sells complete rifles, including a commercial version of its SOCOM sniper rifle listed at $6,500, according to Guns.com.
  • Military contracts. The largest publicly reported contract is the SOCOM award described below.

Military contracts and defense work

In 2023 U.S. Special Operations Command picked Geissele's rifle for its Mid-Range Gas Gun (Sniper) program. Guns.com reported a 10-year contract with a maximum value of $29,263,029. The rifle, known inside the company as Project Joy, was designated the Mark 1 Mod 0. According to The Firearm Blog, Geissele beat designs from other shortlisted makers, including FN and LMT, and the Navy fired more than 25,000 rounds through test guns during evaluation.

In March 2026 the U.S. Army described a research partnership with Geissele and Carpenter Technology on a new barrel for next-generation small arms. The Army article says Geissele, which it notes is also known as Gwynedd, developed the production methods for barrels made from Carpenter's GNB 200 alloy under agreements signed in 2022.

Recent changes (2025–2026)

In September 2026 Military Times reported that Geissele had shown a production-ready Hypervelocity Improved Capability Assault Rifle (HICAR), built for a SOCOM program to extend the life of the M4 carbine with higher-pressure 5.56mm ammunition. Bill Geissele, described as the company's founder and president, told the paper the team had worked on high-pressure ammunition projects for about three years before the solicitation. He said a civilian version would not be sold until the ammunition is commercially available.

Career: from machine shops to his own company

Geissele laid out his background in the 2011 AmmoLand interview:

  • At 15 he started working in a machine shop in southern New Jersey, where he learned precision metalwork.
  • After high school he did machine work on motorcycles, including at a chopper shop in Williamstown, New Jersey.
  • He earned a two-year degree at a community college while working at an industrial machine shop in Pennsylvania.
  • He then worked for a mining equipment company, servicing ore mills in countries including Venezuela, Chile, Peru, Indonesia, Australia, China and Russia.
  • Savings from that work paid for him to finish an engineering degree at Rutgers.
  • He returned to run the mining company's field service department, then moved to the railway industry, where he ran a design department.
  • A competitive High Power service rifle shooter, he designed his own trigger in late 2003 and early 2004 because no trigger on the market satisfied him.

He also explained that his surname is pronounced "Guys-Lee" and that his family has been in the United States for about 190 years.

Personal life

Geissele keeps his private life out of the press. The wife's name given on the older version of this page could not be verified and has been removed. He signs company letters "For God & Country", as the Recoil letter shows, but we found no reliable reporting on his age, height or family.

How he compares

Why estimates differ

Figures such as $747 million appear on sites that publish numbers without method. A private manufacturer's value depends on revenue, margins and debt, none of which Geissele Automatics has disclosed. The one hard public number is the SOCOM contract ceiling of about $29.3 million over ten years, which is a maximum, not guaranteed revenue. Until the company's finances are reported, his personal net worth remains unknown.
