No reputable outlet has published an estimate of Art Papas' net worth. The $16 million figure and the "$200k a year" income that appeared on this page before had no source, so we have removed them. What is on record: Papas co-founded Bullhorn, the Boston maker of software for staffing and recruiting firms, in 1999, still runs it as founder and CEO, and kept a stake after selling control to private equity in 2012. He told the Boston Globe in 2024 that Bullhorn would pass $500 million in annual revenue that year.
What is Art Papas' net worth?
Bullhorn is privately owned, so its valuation and the size of Papas' remaining stake are not public. The Boston Globe reported in 2017 that he sold a majority share to Vista Equity Partners in 2012 but still held a stake. Inc. reported that the company was sold again in 2017. None of these deals came with a published price for his shares.
Because no outlet has put a number on his wealth, this page does not show one. The $16 million once shown here had no source.

Where the money comes from
- Bullhorn equity. His founding stake, partly cashed out in the 2012 majority sale and partly kept.
- CEO pay. As CEO of a company with about 1,400 employees in 2024, according to the Globe, he draws a salary, but Bullhorn does not publish it. The $200,000 salary claimed on this page before had no source.
- Company growth. Inc. reported that Bullhorn hit about $150 million in revenue by 2017. The Globe reported in 2024 that the Textkernel deal would push revenue past $500 million for the first time and that the company was profitable.
How Bullhorn started
Papas studied math at Tufts University and wrote software for Thomson Financial before leaving at 24 to start Bullhorn in 1999, Inc. reported. Other sources name Roger Colvin and Barry Hinckley as co-founders. The first idea, an online marketplace for freelance creative workers, did not catch on. He told the Globe that an angel investor suggested a change of direction in 2001.
That year was close to fatal. In a column for Fortune, Papas wrote that Bullhorn had only about three months of payroll left and that its only institutional investor wanted it shut down rather than raise money at a lower valuation. Inc. reported that the company had raised $4 million from GE Capital and was down to its last $100,000 by 2000. A recruiting firm owner in New Jersey paid Bullhorn to build a database for his business, which led to a $750,000 raise from existing investors and to the staffing software Bullhorn is known for today.

Recent changes (2024 to 2026)
The Textkernel acquisition was the biggest move of recent years. Techzine, citing Dutch paper FD, put the price at 300 million euros; the Globe cited a reported $320 million. Papas told the Globe the company had billions of data points from resumes and hiring decisions and planned to use them for AI matching. He also said he was happy to stay under private equity ownership rather than go public for now.
In May 2026, Papas presented Bullhorn Amplify Digital Workers and a chat interface for recruiters at the company's Engage conference in Boston, according to a Bullhorn press release. In August 2026 Bullhorn promoted four executives, including a new chief technology officer, to speed up its AI product work.
Personal life
The Globe reported in April 2017 that Papas was 42, which puts his birth around 1974 or 1975. He plays guitar in a company band called Stampede that practices weekly in a studio at Bullhorn's office. He introduced unlimited vacation for staff in 2016 and said he takes about five weeks a year himself.
The earlier version of this page gave his height and weight, described a wife, and claimed a master's degree in mathematics. None of those had a source and they have been removed.
