Bruce Rose is executive vice president of the AP Group of Companies, a British Columbia forest products business whose operations have included Aspen Planers in Merritt and the Flavelle sawmill in Port Moody. He is the company's main public voice on mill closures, forest policy and its Port Moody land. No reputable publisher has estimated his net worth, and this page does not give one.

What is Bruce Rose's net worth?

An earlier version of this page said $10 million and described Rose as the owner of the AP Group. We found no source for the figure. The ownership claim also does not hold up: news reports describe him as a vice-president and executive vice president of the company, not its owner. The $500,000 income figure had no source either. All of these have been removed.

Rose is a senior executive at a private, family-controlled forestry business. His salary and any equity he holds have not been reported, so there is no reliable basis for a personal net worth figure.

Where the money comes from

  • Executive role at AP Group. Senior management pay at a private B.C. lumber company. The amount is not public.
  • Earlier advisory work. Professional profiles list earlier consulting and corporate development roles, including a Vancouver advisory firm. We could not confirm these in independent reporting, so we do not rely on them.

What the AP Group does

The AP Group of Companies makes lumber and wood products in B.C. Through Aspen Planers it has run a mill in Merritt in the Nicola Valley, and it also has facilities in Savona and Lillooet and a biomass plant in Merritt, according to NowMedia. Until 2020 it owned the Flavelle Sawmill Co. on the Port Moody waterfront east of Vancouver. A federal lobbying registration first filed in 2026 lists Rose as the responsible officer for AP Group at an address on Houston Street in Merritt, according to the Investigative Journalism Foundation's lobbying database.

The Flavelle sawmill closure (2020)

In August 2020 the AP Group said its Flavelle sawmill in Port Moody, which had about 70 workers, would close at the end of October. Rose, then described as a company vice-president, told the Vancouver Sun that rising property taxes and higher Port Authority water-lot lease rates had made milling "just not economic." The United Steelworkers local said the announcement surprised workers and asked the city to reverse its 2018 decision allowing housing on the site. The union also pushed for extended benefits for laid-off staff. Rose said talks on a closure agreement were continuing.

In April 2021 Rose wrote to Port Moody council as executive vice president of the AP Group of Companies, according to the city's meeting records. The letter was part of the long-running debate over the future of the waterfront site.

The Merritt shutdown (2024)

Aspen Planers stopped operations in Merritt on April 25, 2024, after running a single shift for much of 2023 and 2024. Rose told the Merritt Herald, as summarized by Wood Business, that B.C.'s forest industry was in crisis because of high costs and little government support. About 100 employees were affected. In a July 2024 interview with NowMedia he said the mill had been losing significant money each month because of log prices, limited access to timber and delays in cutting permits, set against low lumber prices. He called the mill Merritt's last one still standing and said the fallout for the town was devastating. He added that some contractors had worked with Aspen Planers for more than 50 years.

Recent changes (2025–2026)

The Merritt closure came during a wave of B.C. mill shutdowns and curtailments, including Canfor's. By 2026 AP Group had registered to lobby at the federal level, with Rose named as the officer responsible. We did not find reports that the Merritt mill had restarted.

Education and personal life

The old page said Rose studied at the University of Victoria and earned an MBA from the University of British Columbia. His own professional profile lists UBC, but we found no independent source, so we note it without confirming it. The old page's age of 57, height and weight had no source and have been removed, along with a generic paragraph about an unnamed wife. Rose is based in the Vancouver area.

Net worth compared

Other executives profiled here include Bill Stoller and Bobby Goodlatte. Unlike founders who own their companies, Rose is a senior manager in a family-controlled business, and the owners' wealth should not be attributed to him.

Why no figure is given

The AP Group is private and does not publish revenue, profits or executive pay. The B.C. lumber industry has also gone through several loss-making years. Without disclosed pay or equity, any net worth figure for Rose would be invented. We will add one if a reputable outlet reports it.
