Bishop Sedgwick Daniels, the longtime pastor of Holy Redeemer Institutional Church of God in Christ in Milwaukee and a member of the Church of God in Christ (COGIC) General Board, died on November 12, 2023, at age 64. No reputable outlet ever published a net worth for him. The old version of this page claimed he was a 74-year-old worth $29 million and pastor of "Potter's House International Ministries." None of that was true, and it has been removed.
What Was Bishop Sedgwick Daniels' Net Worth?
There is no sourced estimate. His pay as a pastor was never made public. Daniels' influence came from the institutions he built in Milwaukee: a large church, a school, a senior living center, a health clinic and a museum, according to FOX6 News and WUWM. Those belonged to the church and its affiliated organizations, not to him personally.
The earlier page's claims that he earned $900,000 a year, $75,000 a month and $2,500 a day had no source either, and they have been removed.

Bishop Sedgwick Daniels' Yearly Earnings and Salary
His income as senior pastor of Holy Redeemer and as a COGIC bishop was never disclosed. We found no book deals, broadcast contracts or business holdings reported in his name. For that reason there is no basis for a salary figure.

Church Leadership
Daniels led Holy Redeemer Institutional Church of God in Christ on Milwaukee's north side for decades. When he died, COGIC described him as a General Board member and as prelate, or presiding bishop, of its Wisconsin First Jurisdiction, WREG reported. His death was announced as thousands of COGIC members gathered in Memphis for the church's 115th Holy Convocation.
A guest-book entry on his published obituary notes that he also served as interim bishop of another COGIC jurisdiction in 2018 and 2019. TMJ4 reported that his service extended to northern Illinois as well as Milwaukee.
Institutions He Built
- Holy Redeemer Christian Academy – a private school affiliated with the church. It had 444 students in 2022–23, nearly all in Wisconsin's school choice program.
- Senior living and a health clinic – FOX6 reported that he helped found both. A friend of more than 50 years told the station he had even talked about opening an orphanage.
- The Institute for the Preservation of African American Music & Arts (I-PAMA) – a museum and performing arts center that opened in August 2021 at North 32nd Street and West Hampton Avenue. Daniels was its executive director. He told WUWM the idea came from a visit to a Holocaust museum in Israel more than 30 years earlier. The institute was planned to host traveling art exhibits, family programs and culinary arts, with rooms of African artifacts, videos and recorded voices, and a gallery on African American achievement in music.
The 2023 School Funding Dispute
In August 2023, a few months before his death, Wisconsin's Department of Public Instruction removed Holy Redeemer Christian Academy from the state's school choice and special-needs scholarship programs. According to Wisconsin Public Radio, reported by Urban Milwaukee, the department said the school was not financially viable under state law, had not posted a required surety bond and had repeatedly filed late reports. The school had received nearly $3.4 million in state choice funding the year before. The department cited late filings going back to its September 2021 enrollment audit and 2021–22 financial reports, and told families they could move to other choice schools, private schools or Milwaukee Public Schools for the 2023–24 year. The letter was addressed to Daniels, who could not be reached for comment at the time.
Death and Legacy
Daniels died on Sunday, November 12, 2023. WREG reported that no cause of death was given. Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson called him a pillar of the community in faith, economics and education, and Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley described him as a lifelong scholar and educator. His national homegoing service was held at Holy Redeemer on November 20, 2023.
In August 2025, the city dedicated an honorary street sign for him at North 32nd Street and West Hampton Avenue, next to I-PAMA, which now houses a memorial display of his desk, chair and vestments, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported.
Family
His sister is Milwaukee businesswoman Valerie Daniels-Carter, founder of V&J Foods, who spoke at the 2025 sign dedication; the Journal Sentinel also identified John Daniels as a sibling. The old page named his wife as "Irma" and gave a height and weight. We could not confirm the name, and the physical details had no source, so they have been removed.

Why There Is No Net Worth Figure
Church leaders' personal finances are rarely public, and Daniels never appeared on any rich list. The assets associated with him, including the church campus, school and museum, are owned by religious and nonprofit organizations. Any personal figure would be a guess.
